The Painting & Collage Wish List
|
| No turpentine, please.
The Painting & Collage Studio is a low-odour session: no turps.
If you want to use conventional oil paints or alkyds in your private class,
please purchase a quality brand of odorless mineral spirits such as Taltine or Sansodor.

Tools & supplies |
Details, quantities & possible brands |
| First, everybody needs this stuff for weekly sketchbook exercises: |
| |
Hardbound SKETCHBOOK (at least 8 ½” X 5 ½”) |
Okay, if you're feeling daunted by this, settle for
a flip-the-page, wire-bound, softcover sketchbook the first time.
Hard covers stand up to the abuse better, but the important thing
is to get a sketchbook. |
| | small set of gouache paint | such as Reeves or PEBEO |
| | drawing pencil & eraser |
| | black waterproof pen/marker | such as Pigma Micron 05
or Sharpie extra-fine |
| | UHU | or other water-soluble “lipstick-style” glue stick |
| Next, everybody needs this stuff, no matter what sort of paint you're using: |
| | roll of masking tape | ½” or ¾” (usually not green low-tack) |
| | painting/support storage | such as a portfolio or

| | blue | such as phthalo blue, or ultramarine blue |
| | yellow | such as cadmium yellow, or lemon yellow |

| at least 20 pages, or tear down full-size sheets to manageable pieces |
| | palette with depressions for liquid paint | |
| | soft-bristled brushes | start, perhaps, with a wash brush and a round (#6 to #8);
don't buy sable until you've tried one (and learned how to care for a brush well) |
| Painters in GOUACHE need this stuff: |

| Painters in ACRYLIC or water-mixable OIL need this stuff: |

or canvas boards | enough for roughly 5 to 10 sheets/panels/projects |
