Serendipity

Painting is seldom the product of a perfect plan.

Part of a healthy creative process is paying attention to what's happening and responding to the moment, looking for what my high school art teacher used to call "happy accidents."

Slug Plummet; acrylic on hardboard;
6 inches X 6 inches; Carson 2002

For example: Serendipity is happenstance, the good fortune to discover that a thick blob of paint slammed onto the panel looks like a silver slug . . . and then turn that into the subject of the painting.

That high school art teacher was Jake Jacobik of Perth & District Collegiate Institute. Hi, Mr. Jacobik, and thank you.
