Linda's Snowdome with Babies in itI'm Winning the War With My Fertility, Linda Carson, 1992 Mixed media: glass globe approx. 10cm diameter, red fabric rose, a dozen small plastic babies & adhesive lettering
Private Collection
What you're looking at is a "snowdome" where a dozen hard little plastic babies tink up against the glass when you shake it, then come to rest under the petals of a big red rose. Around the base of the snowdome is adhesive lettering which reads, "I'm winning the war with my fertility." This snowdome was part of a larger work called "fertility," which featured a narrow glass wall shelf and a whole row of different flower-filled glass globes in varying states of (natural) decay. This was the only globe I altered. I swapped this work with another grad student, and she gave it to her sister as a wedding gift.
