Art Classes for Kids
Artist-in-charge: Linda Carson
"Take chances. Make mistakes. Get messy."
Ms. Frizzle
These aren't craft courses.
These aren't babysitting.
These are real art classes for kids
who wish they had art every day at school,
kids who wish they could paint at home,
kids who wish they could draw better,
and kids who wish they could try real artists'
supplies like charcoal and chalk pastel.
Kids 6-8 years old Drawing & Painting
- Tuesdays 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., or
Saturdays 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
- This is not a crafts course!
- My goal is to provide a variety of stimulating opportunities to make art,
from imagination and direct observation,
using real (kid-safe) artist's materials.
- My dream students are
enthusiastic about art and aged 6, 7 or 8.
Even students with previous art experience
will benefit most from being in an age-appropriate class.
- Typically, this class uses
tempera paint, pencil, markers, pencil crayons, chalk pastels,
charcoal and some specialty art materials.
We get good and messy, but we also practise cleaning up.
- 8 weeks/$97.90 [Tuition $70 + Materials $20 + 8% PST $1.60 + 7% GST $6.30]
- All materials are provided.

Kids 9-11 years old Drawing & Painting
-
Wednesdays 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., or
Thursdays 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., or
Saturdays 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

-
My goal is
to build skills and encourage students to try new things.
I offer fun, challenging art projects,
working from imagination and direct observation,
using real (kid-safe) artist's materials.
-
My dream students love
art but they're starting to face challenges such as
shading, perspective and how to draw noses.
They're 9, 10 and 11 years old
and they get a kick out of meeting kids the same age
who also love art, regardless of their experience level.
-
Typically this class uses acrylic paint
(which washes off hands but not clothes),
pencils, markers, pencil crayons, chalk pastels, charcoal
and some specialty art materials.
Learning to use studio tools and materials responsibly is part of an art education.

Kids 12-14 years old Drawing, Painting & Sculpting
-
Thursdays 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., or
Saturdays 10:00 a.m. to noon
-
This is not a crafts course!
-
My goal is
to help students focus on skills development
and art projects based on their own interests.
Everyone tries some work in all three major practices:
drawing, painting, and sculpture.
In the last classes of the term,
each student returns to his or her favourite,
designing a personalized project in consultation with me.
-
My dream students love art
and might be thinking about going to art college after high school.
They're 12, 13 and 14 years old and can work independently.
-
Typically this class uses a wide range of art tools and materials,
including hot glue guns, knives and sometimes chisels.
Working safely with tools is an important part of learning to make art independently.
-
8 weeks/$195.80 [Tuition $140 + Materials $40 + 8% PST $3.20 + 7% GST $12.60]
-
All materials are provided.

What About Teens?
Sorry, but I don't offer any group classes specifically for teens.
Why? I don't have enough hours in the day, and neither do most teens.
Your local high schools offer one or more art courses per grade level.
If you're serious about art, you'll need those credits for college,
university, and job applications.
(And if you're not serious about art, why would you want to come to my studio?)
If you need help getting ready for a high school
course, or preparing your portfolio for college applications,
consider booking one or more
private classes.
Students who are considering art school after graduation and
other mature teens may be interested in joining one of the
group classes for adults
to round out their portfolios.
